Video: Rapsody - Ibtihaj ft. D'Angelo, GZA

As Rapsody inches closer to releasing her third studio album EVE, the North Carolina-bred MC has dropped a new visual for “Ibtihaj,” which was unveiled at New York City’s Times Square on Friday (August 2). Produced by 9th Wonder, the track also features heavy hitters D’Angelo and Wu-Tang Clan’s GZA, who appear in the video alongside Mary J. Blige and Roxanne Shanté. According to the press release, the song’s title pays tribute to Ibtihaj Muhammad, a member of the United States national fencing team. In 2016, she became the first Muslim American woman to wear a hijab while competing for the United States in the Olympics. The lyrics revolve around having confidence in yourself and always being fearless. Rapsody's latest "EVE" is expected to arrive on August 23.

Video: Ill Camille: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

DNA got the word from Tajai (Souls of Mischief) during The Sway in the Morning Show (Shade 45) about Los Angeles MC III Camille. She's definitely representing her name to the fullest.
Here's a few words from Abby O'Neill, producer of The Tiny Desk series:
Los Angeles rapper Ill Camille hooked me during my first trip through her sophomore album, Heirloom. Her lyrical prowess and storytelling were so moving, I immediately reached out to her on Instagram and asked if she would like to perform a Tiny Desk. "Please don't make me cry right now. Tiny Desk!?!? You don't understand. I've been praying on this", she replied. "This (message) made my year and my band is ready!" Ill Camille strays a bit from the hip-hop zeitgeist. She raps about love and family serving as the source of her strength, the importance of self-worth as a woman, and the necessity to nurture oneself from within. That core keeps her secure even when confronted by the despair of poverty and the difficult grind of a young artist. And you can hear all that front and center in her music. Her voice is like a cool drink on a summer's day: smooth, clear and replenishing. Her refreshing self-awareness and raw honesty are inherent in each song, pairing nicely with the jazzy, melodic rhythms provided by her close knit crew of musicians. The first two songs, "Spider's Jam" and "Live it Up," feature long time collaborators of Camille's, Iman Omari and drummer Greg Paul of Inglewood collective The Katalyst. Aneesa Strings, a bassist from the Bay Area, provided the low end foundation while also lending her rich vocals to "Fight On." Also, guesting on this song is fellow L.A. native and emcee Damani Nkosi, who's been rocking with Camille since her debut album, The Pre-Write. The four-song set concluded with the upbeat "Again," an ode to happiness and self-actualization.

Video: Pharoahe Monch featuring Lil Fame - 24 Hours

Pharoahe Monch is celebrating his birthday in the best way possible—by bringing us a new song and video. The Mr. Complex-directed clip "24 Hours" finds Pharoahe teaming with M.O.P.'s Lil Fame to get their money from a Wall Street type who owes them big bucks. The song was produced by Monch, with additional production from DJ OGee and Parks Vallely. It is, Pharoahe explained, not part of a larger project. Instead, it's a thank you to his supporters. "'24 Hours' is a standalone song that’s not attached to any upcoming project and is my first independent release," Monch says of the video, premiering on Complex. "I produced both the record and the video, wanting to give my fans something hardcore on my birthday, as a show of my appreciation. With Lil Fame holding me down, I feel as if it will boost everyone’s endorphin levels 100 percent." Fame says that more collabs will be happening soon. "The video is insane, and me and Pharoahe got more shit on the way!" he tells us. Watch "24 Hours" above.
