Now he’s readying his next major project, AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT with the first single in “9 to 5.” He’s enlisted Gary, Indiana rapper Freddie Gibbs, fresh off his critically acclaimed record Bandana and rising Houston emcee Tedy Andreas to trade verses on the inspirational track framed around the struggle of working a dead-end job. “I think the saddest thing I see when I see young people that have already given in. I’m like, that’s the time you fight. That’s the time you should try and fail and try again. Then it’s like, you get old and you can at least be like, ‘well, at least I tried, it didn’t work out,’” the producer says on the song’s introduction. “9 to 5” utilizes a guitar sample that will immediately bring the golden era of 90s west coast hip-hop production to mind paired with an angelic choral arrangement that demands multiple listens.
