DNA has a soft spot in the heart for the Producer/MC combo especially those coming out of the Bay Area. In what I call currently "The Producer Era", handling both duties doesn't come with the negative stigma of the 90's or 2000's (i.e. why is Kanye trying to rap!?!). With producer focused club nights like Los Angeles' 12 year run "The Low End Theory" (2006-2018), producers have evolved into their own entities without the need to attach to others for exposure. In the Bay Area Production has been moving steadily to the forefront with events such as Today's Future Sound Beat Cyphers, Beat Boutique, Flip a Beat Club and many more. Salute to some of the major influences of the current production wave, The Alchemist, Roc Marci, MF Doom (RIP), your influence is shining.
BigDaddyChop falls in that lineage of mic controllers who create their own soundscapes and beat backdrops. Fellow Antioch representer Dreego has kept a consistent musical output since 2020 with his most recent "Another 24" produced entirely by DJ Grumble and Evil Crazy World produced entirely by quattro. Dreego approaches MCing in the classic in your face reality based style that seems to compliment this current wave of production (peep MC/Producers Nán Fiero, ovrkast). Background: both come from Antioch California. Our influences include Bay Area music, the environment we were raised in, underground hip hop and all of our talented friends that also make amazing music.
About the song/video: This is the first video we shot for our newest album “The Golden Ticket”. The Golden Ticket is a follow up to our first album “The Forgotten Treasure”. This album is meant to be a representation of the discoveries we made from the treasure on the first album.
What’s next? We have are third album 90% done already and we’re also currently working on a solo Dreego album fully produced by BigDaddyChop. BigDaddyChop has a show October 19th in Stockton , October 25th in San Francisco & both BigDaddyChop & Dreego have an upcoming show November 30th in San Francisco!
